About:
Joey Wright a retired American professional basketball player is the head coach of the Adelaide 36ers who play in the Australian-based National Basketball League (NBL).
He has been the coach of two other NBL teams, the Brisbane Bullets, which won the NBL championship, and the now-defunct Gold Coast Blaze.
As a professional basketball player the former University of Texas basketball star was drafted to the Phoenix Suns, and although he played overseas for a number of years, he never appeared in a NBA game.
He played for the Geelong Supercats during the 1995 and 1996 NBL seasons
Drawing upon previous coaching experience with the Austin Cyclones in the Southwest Basketball League (USA) and other US teams, Wright was appointed as the Brisbane Bullets' head coach midway through the 2002/2003 season, a position which he held until 2008. He is a three time NBL Coach of the Year (2003–04, 2006–07 and 2016–17), and was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.
Wright lifted the 36ers from the bottom of the ladder to the NBL Grand Final in just one season.
