About:
Madison Wilson is an Australian swimmer and backstroke specialist.
In her first year of headline-making performances, Wilson qualified for the 2012 Junior Pan Pacs in the 100m backstroke and within the next few years she was among the nation’s elite swimmers.
In 2013 she competed at the World University Games, winning the 200m backstroke and finishing third overall in the 100m backstroke.
At the 2015 Commonwealth Games, Wilson went from being a replacement swimmer, to finishing with a silver medal in the 50m backstroke.
Although Wilson had been somewhat of a newcomer to major international competitions, she qualified for the 2015 World Championships in Kazan. The backstroke specialist took on the 50m event finishing sixth and in the 100m backstroke event she touched the wall in second behind Emily Seebohm, giving Australia a one-two finish.
An Olympian in Rio, Madison finished 8th in the finals of the 100m backstroke, and in the 2017 World Championships she led off the Australian 4x200m relay to help the team win bronze.
